Special Services

Sedation Dentistry: IV, General, Oral, N2O2
For anxious patients, dentistry can be a nightmare. For these same patients, sedation dentistry can be a dream come true. Sedation dentistry is perfect for patients that suffer from a bad gag reflex, sensitive teeth, or are merely nervous. Dr. Goehring performs IV sedation in office and also can provide general anesthesia for those patients who need deeper sedation. These services can save the patient time, trouble and discomfort.

Implant Dentistry
For individuals who wish to replace missing teeth, dental implants may be an effective long-term solution. Implants provide greater structural support and last longer than either bridges or dentures. Implants serve as the artificial root to which new teeth are bonded. They are typically constructed of titanium, a strong and safe material that effectively attaches to bone. The procedure to insert dental implants typically involve three steps: the implant insertion stage, osseointegration (the period of healing for the jawbone), and the attachment of the restoration or new tooth.

TMJ and facial pain disorders
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint -- the jaw joint. When the joint becomes irritated and inflamed, facial pain, headaches, ear pain, and popping of the jaw can occur. There are many possible causes of TMJ including bruxism (the clenching and grinding of your teeth, especially while you sleep), stress, and injury. Dr. Goehring can take X-rays and help you determine if you have a TMJ disorder. In most cases, TMJ can be treated with over-the-counter pain relievers, rest, and stress reduction techniques. Surgery is rarely necessary. If your pain is caused by bruxism, he can fit you with a special mouth guard to wear at night. If you have facial pain or think you may have TMJ, please contact us to learn more.

Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are thin shells that are laid onto the teeth and bonded to the surface. Although they can be made of different materials, porcelain is frequently used because of its durability and realistic appearance. Veneers are a more conservative alternative to crowns since they require less removal of the tooth's original surface. With veneers in place, patients can expect straighter, whiter, and more even teeth.

Composite Bonding
Composite bonding is a technique used to improve the appearance of your teeth. The term composite bonding refers to any composite material, either a plastic or resin, which is bonded to an existing tooth. Bonding is ideal for fixing chipped or cracked teeth, hiding discoloration on the tooth's surface, or reducing the gaps between teeth. Whatever the specific intent, composite bonding creates more aesthetically pleasing teeth and a brighter smile. Unlike veneers or crowns, composite bonding removes little if any of the original tooth.

Bleaching
Regardless of how well you care for your teeth, it is inevitable that, over time, some yellowing or discoloration will occur. This gradual change can be caused by aging, substances that stain your teeth (such as coffee and tobacco), excessive fluoride, or the deterioration of a tooth's nerve. Bleaching helps your teeth become as white as they can be.

Cerec Restoration - All porcelain restoration
Cerec 3 offers the latest in dental advancements. The results are unparalleled. The entire process can be done in only a single visit to our office.

Root Canals
Prior to recent advances in medicine, damage to the core of a tooth usually meant its quick removal. The modern solution is a root canal, known in the medical community as endodontic treatment. This can usually be done painlessly and in one visit. A root canal procedure cleans, disinfects, and refills the interior of the tooth, thereby preventing serious pain and permanent damage to decayed teeth.

Fillings
Our office places porcelain, amalgam (silver) or in some cases composite fillings.

Crowns
When a tooth is cracked, decayed, or damaged, a crown may need to be fitted onto the tooth. A crown is a permanent covering that fits over the original tooth. Crowns can be made of porcelain or gold.

Bridges
A bridge is a device used to fill the space where a tooth has fallen out or been removed. A typical bridge consists of a pontic (a filler tooth) that is attached to two surrounding abutments (crowns). Once complete, this bridge structure is bonded into the mouth. Without the use of a bridge, spaces in the mouth from missing teeth can cause multiple teeth to shift, lead to occlusion (biting) and/or jaw problems and spur periodontal disease. Bridges safeguard the integrity of existing teeth and help maintain a healthy, vibrant smile.

Partials
Partial dentures are used to replace missing teeth. Consisting of replacement teeth, plastic gum area, and either metal clasps or precision attachments, partials can make eating and speaking easier for people who are missing some of their teeth. Partials are removable, which makes them easier to clean and care for. If you are missing teeth, partials may be an excellent way to improve your health and appearance. Please contact us to learn more about partials.

Dentures
Over time, people's teeth tend to naturally deteriorate. When a tooth has deteriorated substantially, it often needs to be extracted. And when multiple teeth are extracted, dentures may be the most appropriate solution. Dentures can create a natural and healthy looking set of teeth. As well, a properly fitting set of dentures can greatly enhance your smile and sense of self-esteem.

Periodontal Treatment (gum and bone)
Periodontal, or gum, disease occurs when bacteria-containing plaque causes damage to the gums and eventually the bones as well. As the disease progresses, pockets form between the teeth and the gums, allowing the bacteria to reach and damage the bone. Left untreated, periodontal disease can cause tooth loss. Dr. Goehring offers treatment for gums and bone affected by periodontal disease. From scaling and root planting to surgical intervention, he can provide the care you need.

Digital Radiography
Radiographs, or X-rays, are an important diagnostic tool in dentistry. Because our office is committed to using the latest and best technology, we use digital rather than traditional radiography. This allows Dr. Goehring to view, enlarge, and store images of your teeth and mouth right away. Digital radiography reduces exposure to radiation by up to 90% of traditional x-rays.

Children's Dentistry
Dental care is as important for children as it is for adults. Babies should have their first dental visit within six months of the time their first tooth comes in and every six months thereafter. When looking for a dentist for your child, it is important to select someone who enjoys and frequently works with children. Dr. Goehring has lots of experience working with children and has a knack for building a rapport with them. His patience, gentle demeanor, and thorough knowledge make him a great fit for your whole family!
